Misc C. ROE (Record of Employment) Run (Optional)

What is a Record of Employment Run?

The ROE (Record of Employment) form must be produced when terminating employees. Powerpay uses data from your entered payroll and employee profile information to automatically populate an ROE form. Use an ROE run if an employee(s) is terminated between payroll runs and you are required to provide that employee with an ROE form before your next pay period.

Why do I have to do this?

The ROE will automatically be submitted to Service Canada once the payroll completes processing. The Record of Employment (ROE) is used by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) to determine:

  • whether a person qualifies for EI (Employment Insurance) benefits.
  • how much they will receive.
  • the length of time they will receive the benefits.

An ROE form must be issued even if the employee has no intention of filing a claim for EI benefits. Again, use an ROE run if a situation occurs where an employee(s) is terminating and you are obligated by the five-day rule to produce an ROE form before your next regularly scheduled payroll run.

ROE runs produce ROE forms only. They do not produce payments or any other standard reports.
Note: If the employee has just been terminated after your last regular run and is still owed accumulated vacation pay, it is recommended that you create an Extra run for this purpose, signal the employee’s vacation pay to be paid, and request the employee’s ROE form.
